It Was a Good Day!

Yesterday was one of those days where you got alot accomplished yet had fun in the process. I just love days like that!

My Mom and Jim are in town, so hubby, handsome son, and I met them for lunch. We met at our favorite mexican restaurant but just had a light lunch (hubby and I are trying to cut back on the carbs). This is a picture of my Mom, Jim, and handsome son. In the last year my mom has lost 40 pounds. She looks great but was complaining yesterday because her size 4 pants are a little big. I wish I had that complaint and her will power.

I have read from so many of you about your great Goodwill, thrift shop, and garage sale finds. I'll be the first to admit that I'm kind of a snob in that area because I don't shop any of the 3. Well yesterday I decided I'd give it a try. After lunch I stopped at the Goodwill and to my surprise I walked away with a few items. It'll take some time to get used to the idea but aren't you proud of me!?!

I found these glass goblets for $1.50 each. They are a vivid green and nothing like I have ever purchased before. I usually don't go for much color but I couldn't walk away from these. We're having family over for dinner tonight and they are already set up on the dinner table. The green salad plates are new too.

I've decided I need to spruce up my cooking skills a bit so I was delighted when I spotted this cookbook by Sandra Lee. She has a cooking show on TV that I have watched in the past. I like her cooking style, it's semi-homemade. Her recipes include alot of store bought items to make the cooking process easier and less time consuming.

I stopped by the mall on my way home for more of these. I've mentioned before that my new candle scent for the summer is Sun and Sand. I bought one for my mom and sister who are coming for dinner tonight, one for a friend who is moving to Seattle tomorrow (I thought she might want to think of the California Sun and Sand when the Seattle weather gets her down), and of course, another one for me!

A little retail therapy makes any day a good day doesn't it! Speaking of retail therapy, I need to get my act together this morning and head out the door. We're having dinner here for my mom/Jim, sister/hubby, 2 guests, and my family of 4. We haven't entertained in awhile so I'm looking forward to it.

Score, score and score. Love it Linda. Those goblets are beautiful. Green is my thing though. Your parents are way cute. And that son, don't get me started. So cute.

Your mother is amazing. Size 4? What in the world. That is a number I would never see, even if I wanted too. Go mom go...

Have fun tonight and don't work to hard. Take care dear friend...

Hi Linda,

I love the green glasses! You'll be amazed what treasures you can find at those places with a little time and patience.

Thanks for stopping by my site. Yes, we do live in Phoenix. We used to live in So Cal (north of LA) for 18 years, but moved back because most of our favorite people live here...so we're NOT here for the weather although I do enjoy many of the "seasons" here. I've decided though that people are more important than weather. Our daughter graduated from ASU with her Master's last year and has just moved back to So Cal due to her husband's new career. So we seem to have quite a bit in common.

Stop by again anytime. I love to hear from visitors and new friends.

I love the glasses. They are so beautiful! I used to go garage saleing all the time, but haven't forever.. And I go to Savers once in awhile. It's hard to look through all the racks with my girls.. But my husband has found so many great buys there..
Have fun with your family & good luck with dinner.

Is it just me or do those sun and surf candles burn like six times faster than others? Good shopping!

Hi Linda

Well done on getting out of your comfort zone and finding such a fantastic surprise!!! I often look in antique shops for old glasses. I love the old harliquine range of glassware and you really can only find the good ones in antique stores now. They usually come in sets of 6 and each glass is a different colour with an opalecent (sp?) coating - they are beautiful - finding 6 in a set is the challenge now - they were made in the 1920's.

Have a great weekend with your visitors!!! Luv Mandi.

I m so happy I was able to catch up on your blog this morning. It sounds like you have been busy with fun things! I am going to buy one of those candles, today when I go to the mall. By the sound of it, they sound like a piece of summer heaven! :)

I too don't shop thrift stores. I have it on my list of to do's. The one thing that bothers me the most is the smell. I think it is all of the items coming from different homes with different smells that get to me. I am going to give it a try though. Everyone seems to find such wonderful treasures! I LOVE the green glasses! They would match perfectly in my kitchen! :) Have a Happy TGIF! :) Michelle

You left a comment on my blog that you bought a fixer upper, what??? I have visited your blog before and your home is so new looking! I love the new goblets! That is what I love about garage sales... I have gotten dishes and can change table settings. It makes you look like you spend a lot of money but it is less that paper plates! Saw your blog about your daughter... I totally understand. Then when you least expect it they blow you away with something so sweet that touches to the core of your heart.

Oh my goodness, what fun, fun stuff going on over there on that coast.

I absolutely love those glasses. More than the glasses is the shopping for beautiful finds at garage (called tag sales here in the East)sales.

Sandra Lee is one of my favs on the Cooking Channel. Maybe someday we will meet up and entertain together... let's add Jan too! :)

Have a wonderful Memorial Day. Don't forget your flags!
