I Like What I Like...

I've been wanting to hang some curtains or drapery on either side of my shutters in my living room and dining room but have had the hardest time finding something that I like. As much as I enjoy it, for some reason it takes me along time to make decisions about decorating. Like so many of you, I take great pride in my home so I always want to make sure I'm picking out just the right thing. The problem is that there is alot of pretty stuff out there. But one thing is certain...I like what I like!

I went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond a few weeks ago and brought home 2 curtains that I thought might work. Once I got them home I realized I always go for a particular style...

The curtains I brought home were pretty much the same as what I already have around the house. As you can see, I'm really drawn to plaids and to jewel tone colors.

I had also been wanting a table runner for my dining room so I decided to keep 1 of the curtains and make a table runner out of it. It was a no-sew kind of project.

I cut the curtain the width and length that I wanted, hemmed the sides and bottom with iron on hemming tape, and was done in about an hour. After I was done though, I thought it still looked unfinished and needed a little something else so the next day I went to Joann's and picked up some fringe. I bought some of the fabric glue that I've been reading about so much in blogland and just glued the fringe onto the runner. It worked like a charm!

So needless to say, I've got a new table runner...but still no curtains!

I'm drawn to the same kind of thing. I've been wanting a table runner. I'll have to check out the curtain area and make one like you did!

Good Morning Miz Linda,
With so many beautiful choices out there it's hard to decide! I work with fabric all day long and have daydreamed about this or that particular one for hours, how it would look in my home, what I'd have to change to use it, etc. But I never buy any! *smiles* Too difficult to choose! You'll find the perfect window treatments and when you do we'll all love ooo'ing and ahhhh'ing over them with you *smiles*

Did you make the curtains with the two fabric straps? My windows are quite large and anything I buy is too small widthwise. Just wondering how you measured, especially the length.

Oh, I think your home looks beautiful!!! I LOVE the neat valance with the banding...that is so awesome and your runner turned out fantastic! I am impressed!!! Can't wait to see what you decide for curtains...I have been struggling with curtains for some time for our formal living and dining rooms....I just had the lady from JCPenney come by to measure and show me some fabrics since the windows are high and I can't find any ready mades...well, guess how much it was going to cost??? For 2 rooms...$6,400! My husband just about had a heart attack, so I am back to the drawing board!!! Good luck on your project and let me know if you find anything you love!

it's cracking me up that you bought a curtain (what you were shopping for) but then didn't use it for a curtain :o) the table runner looks great on your table.

I love the colors you do too.
I haven't had curtains in any room in my house for so many years...I would love to redecorate my house, but it just isn't something I do.
I love your table runner!

You did an awesome job with the table runner. Picking our drapes for my home was one of the HARDEST things to do in my decorating. My goodness!!!!! I do like your style and your colors. Sorry I can't be of more assistance in advising you on your curtains though.

Enjoy your evening!

I've always had the hardest time with window coverings, and that's why I only had wood blinds until I started reading all these wonderful blogs. Now I find myself attracted to similar colors and patterns as yours. Like you, I just keep looking. We know what we like, and it stands out when we find it. Love your new table runner!

You have beautiful style Linda ---it is hard to make those kinds of decisions. They say our "home is an expressions our ourselves" so I like to have things in it that really matter to me. I just picked out a new kitchen light fixture for the ceiling (I'll take a picture when it is up, its on order) and I asked hubby "do you like this" he said "yeah". "good, I said, cause It really didn't matter if you did or didn't, I am getting it" He said "that's what I figured"
