My husband went out of town yesterday so last night I got the laundry room all ready in order to leave Jake in there while I worked today. I put blankets down on the floor, food, water, the whole bit. I also blocked off the door so that he couldn't escape. Although Jake doesn't like his wheels, he's now scooting himself all over...but only when we're not home! I'm telling ya, when you leave the house, you never know where you'll find him when you return.
Today at lunch I rushed home to express Jake's bladder. Many a days I've gone my whole 12-hour shift without taking a bathroom break but there's no way I'm going to have Jake wait that long. I'm sure he doesn't have the sensation of needing to go potty, but now he's prone to UTI's, so we're really good about expressing him regularly.
Anyways, I came in the house and went straight to the laundry room...no Jake! I went from room to room to room, calling for him, couldn't find the rugrat anywhere. He was nowhere to be found! I grabbed the phone, called my husband, telling him "I can't find Jake anywhere. The alarm was on when I got home so I know no one was in the house but Jake is missing!" He says "what do you mean he's missing. It's not like he's gonna get up and walk anywhere!" Duh, I know that, but in the meantime he's missing!
Just as I was going out of Courtney's room (clear across the other side of the house), Jake pops his head out from under her bed!
Here I'm so concerned about Jake and where the little guys disappeared to and hubby's only worried that Jake's gonna leave a trail of poop while he's meandering about the house. Well, truth be told, he's already left a trail of poop while meandering about the house...a few times!
Soooo, long story short, we've now discovered we can't trust a paralyzed dog! Well guess what, Jake's in for a little surprise! We'll soon be bringing out something from his past. Watch out Jake, the trusty old baby gate is coming out of retirement! There's gonna be no more escaping the laundry room now buddy!
If you just weren't so darn cute...

What a funny story! I bet he looked really cute popping his head out from under the bed.
Dang, he IS darn cute!
Such a sweety. I always look forward to a new post on Jake. Riley likes to get under a bed when he's the only one in the house too!
how funny! ive "lost" a cat like that a time or two before....
Awwww! He is too cute. Poor baby. Even though he doesn't like his wheels I'm glad that he is able to get around, even though he gets into a little trouble now and then :) Have a great weekend! Hugs, Loretta
Linda, what a cute story. I so admire you for your dedication to this sweet handicap dog, one in which it doesn't realize he is handicap. You are a angel. Speaking for jake, I appreciate you!
Hope you have a good weekend, my friend!
That is so funny.
Jake is such a cutie.
I'd never have the heart to
discipline him...awww, those
adorable eyes!
Wouldn't you love to have a camera
rolling sometime while you're gone
to see what he does when alone?
Have a great Sat.
Love,
Val
He is so cute!!! I don't think I realized how impaired sweet little Jake is. My dogs all loved to be under a bed.
What a cutie. Great story.
What a smart dog. I am laughing at your panic at a missing dog. Better secure his gate and if he gets out he can have his own show Doggie Prison Break! Not sure I could be mad at that sweet innocent face looking up at me:)

That is so funny!!!! I bet he even knew you were looking for him & he was teasing you.. Silly dog!
Ya can't keep a good dog down. He is so cute.
This is so funny, Linda, but a little scary too. I have a little dog and sometimes I am worried that she will get wedged in something. She used to get stuck on the window sill because she could jump up on it from a chair, but she couldn't turn around on the narrow sill to get down!!
Oh well, I am glad Jake is safe and sound. I hope you have a wonderful holiday with your family!
xoxo

Thanks for the update on Jake. He sounds like quite the dog. And just like you said, he is so darn cute!
I would have to agree...Jake is the cutest little thing I've ever seen!
How can you get mad at a face like that?
Thanks for the nice birthday wishes.
Oh my goodness! I was on the edge of my seat as I was anxiously reading your post! Then I busted out laughing!!!! This was so funny!
YES, he is so darn CUTE!
Jake's face would melt any heart...
I guess I need to read back earlier and see what his problem is,,,I missed it.
OH, poor little guy!! He really is soo cute. And,...I am very happy for your husaband that there was no trail of poop. ;);)
Poor Jake! And poor you too. I don't even want to know what the phrase 'expressing his bladder' means for you. All I can say is THAT is true love!
And he has such a sweet face too! But it will be just a cute behind bars :-) Love your blog and your story telling! More please.
Awww.. they ARE escape artists, aren't they??
Poor little dog---good thing you kept the baby gate. they do come in handy WHAT you can go 12 hours with out a potty break. You are super woman.
I must have missed the story about how the dog is paralyzed??--hope that's not permanent. hope you are having a good memorial weekend
That's very funny that he managed to get out.
Hi Linda,
Jake sure has a mind of his own and is determined little guy. We ahve baby gates up for our guys when we leave the house. They aren't allowed on the living room furniture..so they are in the TV room and JB is in his "kennel" as we still don't trust him...he is a chewer!!
Warmly,
Deb :)
hehehee
that is so funny!
Great that he is getting around more and more!
linda, he is so stinkin' cute!!! i love that he travels when your not at home and plays helpless when you are:)) LOVE.IT!!!
you are such a wonderful puppy-mama:D
much love,
dani xxx
