Shutters, Curtains, or Both

For the last 20 years, we've had plantation shutters on our windows. I love the look of plantation shutters. To me, they look clean and sophisticated. I have only 2 curtains in the whole house...one in the laundry room (and it's not even a curtain, it's a valance) and then curtains over my kitchen sink, and again, more of a valance type.

Curtains are definitely in right now, they're very popular, and they are all over blogland! I've seen so much inspiration lately that I decided to put some curtains up myself. I'm so dang picky (indecisive!), it took me awhile, but I finally came up with what I think are winners. You'll have to give my your honest opinion on what you think.

A few weeks ago I was browsing around in Pier 1 and came across a pair of curtains that I thought would look nice in Courtney's room. I did a post about Courtney's room a few months ago and although we still have her furniture in there, I've sort of made it "my space". I've used alot of beige, brown, and black so these curtains seemed like the perfect addition...

Courtney's room is yellow and is one of the rooms in the house that hasn't been painted beige yet. When I get a few days off in a row, painting this room is on my agenda.

Since I liked the way the curtains looked with the shutters, I knew I wanted to put curtains up in the spare bedroom also. Luckily, this past week I found those too. Long story short, they ended up not being long enough and needed lining, but I got it figured out and hung them up today...

I'm so happy with how the curtains turned out in both rooms. I think they really warm up the space. Now I'm on the lookout for curtains for the living room/dining area. I never would have thought of myself as a "curtain" girl...who knew!?!

Are you a curtain girl?

You have a beautiful home! I love the bedroom with the green curtains. It just ties everything together.
I have curtains in only one room, the rest have blinds. How boring is that? You've inspired me to do something different with my windows!

I haven't been a curtain girl, until NOW! Just look at the transformation they've made in your home! I love how they look, Linda! Very pretty!

I have wood blinds and valances but now I am wanting to get long curtains. I was under the impression that having curtains with the blinds seemed too much but seeing what all the gals in blogland have been doing, I have changed my mind. I will wait until we get into the new house before I use the two.

Looks good Linda. How is Jake?

They both look great. I recently added curtains to my blinds in bedroom and love the change it made.

I've just had an estimate for some plantation shutters in my family room. I don't have any window treatments downstairs and don't really need them as no one can see in unless they are hiding in the woods behind the house. Which of course is why I'm looking at shutters for the family room-I have a healthy imagination : )

I love the curtains with yours...everything looks pretty.

I want to call you Martha (Stewart).
Your curtains are beautiful. They add that special something to the rooms.

I like the curtains too! They give a nice but subtle pop of color.

I've got some GORGEOUS silk curtains for my bedroom which I haven't gotten up yet. Still need the rod and clips. They are Restoration Hardware curtains ($$$) that I got at a local freight ship place for 75% off the original price. Lovely AND a cheap deal!

I love plantation shutters, but the curtains are a nice addition, and you can pull them back, as you've shown them and you get both!

I am a curtain girl without any curtains. When we purchased our house it had wooden blinds and I can't make up my mind on what kind of curtains I want. I love how they soften and bring warmth to a room.

Hi Linda,
The curtains look great! I love curtains and have tons of them stored away for when the bug hits to change things around a bit. Sometimes I just buy them because they're pretty and hope I'll find a place to use them. They really do warm up a room and look especially good with plantation shutters! Hugs, Loretta

I love the way your curtains look! I AM a curtain girl, but in this house I have so many windows that I just can't put curtains on all of them. Most of my curtains are valances on the few windows that have fabric. I have 2" white blinds on all of my windows - mostly for sun control. I think your rooms look beautiful.

You're right! Your curtains do look a lot like my new shower curtain. I love them, of course! I have pined my entire lifetime, however, for plantation shutters and still don't have them. I agree that they are classic, beautiful, and highly functional. I do like adding the warmth of fabric--I'm a textile girl for sure. Your home looks beautiful!
