Fair Days

It's county fair time in my city right now. It's been years since we've gone to the fair. I'm not a big fan of 1) the heat (it was 100+ degrees today) 2) the dust 3) the crowds; but since our daughter was home for the weekend, I suggested we go to the fair.

Due to the heat, we didn't even leave home until 2:30 pm but boy was it still hot outside. We were meeting my sister and BIL there so the first thing we did was get a cool drink and find some shade. We watched this group of ladies perform while waiting for my sister.

A cute group of cloggers. I don't know how they kept themselves from fainting with the heat, wearing long sleeves, and black no less, and with all of their strenuous activity. Notice the one on the far left, she had to be at least 70, but she kept up with the best of them.

Again, to escape the heat, we ventured into the buildings to check out the exhibits. Right when we walked in the door, we ran into Robin. This is a picture of Robin and my daughter Courtney. Robin's daughter Mackenzie is Courtney's long time best friend and roommate in college (Arizona State University). I suggested we take this picture and send it to Mackenzie on Facebook.

No visit to the fair is ever complete without seeing the animals. This is really what a county fair is all about isn't it? This little thing was making so much noise. First of all, he wasn't happy about being tied up to the fence and secondly, he was about to get bathed and he must have known it. He was wanting no part of either.

I also found out today that I've got more than a few daredevils in my family. Courtney and my sister Kim were all too eager to give this a try...

One of those bungee jump rides that shoots straight up in the air at 100 mph!

These two didn't want to look like chickens so they had to take the plunge too. Yep, my husband and BIL Michael. Seriously, am I the only sane one in the bunch!?!

The daredevils...

When was the last time you went to a county fair?

Would you ride in one of these bungee jump contraptions?

I forget some parts of the country are still hot...it was so cool here on Saturday I wore a fleece all day.

I haven't been to a fair in a long time and if I went with you I'd be standing on the sidelines watching the bungee jump too. And my husband and oldest daughter would try it and love it.

I wouldn't ride one for all the money in the world. Well, maybe for all the money in the world, because, come on. But for the thrill and/or bragging rights? Oh HECK no!

Oh no! No way would you get me on one of those. I'm a chicken that way.

We went to the county fair here in Michigan almost every year when the kids were young. Then Husband and I went on our own a few years ago and it just wasn't as fun as it was with the kids! Go figure...

I have made a promise to myself that from here on I am going to challenge myself in ways that I have never done. I am going to learn how to ski, get better at horseback riding, go parasailing...but I don't know about bungee jumping...lol! I do have to have some limits to my daredevil plans!!

Have a wonderful, Sunday, Linda. And, your daughter is so pretty!

xoxo

We love the Los Angeles County Fair. The Fair was the first date for me and my dh. We became engaged in front of the Home and Garden building.

I wonder why the fair isn't in the Spring when the weather is nicer. Looks like you all had a great time!

Hey Linda,

I don't know if your hubby is brave or dumb to have tried that. I couldn't do it for love or money... no siree. Probably the last Fair that I went to was when we still lived in State College, PA so it has been awhile.

Now you've got me craving FAIR FOOD!!!

I would love to ride that comtraption!
It doesn't take much for me to get talked into something like that!
But the best part of the fairs is the animals and the food exibits.

Actually I love country fairs --but NOW that I live in the country, I am surrounded 24/7 by a country fair. So maybe it will loose a little fascination. But what about the FOOD - you can't beat fair food!!!!
and nope, nadda, never ever would I go on that ride.
NEVER!!!

Yep, Linda, you were the only sane one there!
I can't do rides anymore with out coming close to losing my lunch. I can't even do a Ferris wheel.
My husband's hometown (pop. 1200) had their annual Missouri Day. A fun time to reconnect with friends and have a giant snowcone!
We weren't able to get to the CO state fair this year.

What a ride! I'd have kept my feet planted on the ground as well!
I went to our County Fair last August. Took a couple of my grandkids and had a marvelous time!

Hope you have a great week!

That ride looks like a lot of fun! I love fun rides along with my hubby and most of my kids. We love going to our local fair. It is a fun little tradition we do now.

I absolutely love fairs! The food and the fun, and perhaps the memories of childhood that were all good! So glad you guys had a blast - and thank you so much for your sweet birthday wishes for my daughters!

PS - I am putting up the ribbon garland I won last year - so excited!
