I guess at one of our monthly campouts, Howard had casually mentioned to a camping club friend that we were going to be selling the boat. Our friend said his boss Ryan was looking for a boat, and if it was ok, he would tell him about ours. Long story short, Ryan called us and we started the ball rolling.
Ryan, his wife, and their 2 beautiful little girls drove 3 hours to our house today and it was love at first sight when they saw the boat. We had emailed them pictures but it sure made us feel good when Ryan said the boat was so much better than he had expected. It was exactly what they had been looking for!
All in all, they were at our house for about 4 hours and we really got a feel for how wonderful this family is. Seeing them drive away with the boat was hard but it was alot easier knowing that it was being passed on to a young family who would now be making their own fun family memories with it. They didn't know it, but they were exactly the type of family we were hoping for!
So tonight, our boat has a new home. I'm sure it will take us months to adjust to the fact that it's not on the side of the house any more or the fact that I won't catch a glimpse of it outside the laundry room window each day.
To say the least, today has been very bittersweet.
P.S. I asked them to take a picture of themselves on the boat when they take it out for the first time and email it to us. They said they would...and I really hope they do!

It sounds like your beloved boat went to the perfect family! We have always had a boat but haven't used ours that much.
Now when I was growing up THAT was a different story....we were out camping and on the boat every weekend. Right now the boat we have is an old one and the engine is blown....so I am definitely ready to get it gone!
I know it must be bittersweet but at least the boat is going to a good home! You'll have to post the pic if they email you one!
New times, new chapters, life just keeps changing. Hopefully that famly will have the same great memories as you and your family did!
I am so glad the boat went to a family that will enjoy making as many memories as your family has.
Hard to see good times come to an end, but your right it's nice that it now has a knew family.
Cute story.
It's always hard to let go of anything that has helped you formed fun and lasting memories. Sounds like your boat is going to be very happy with it's new family!
Man- if Troy had a real job I would of bought our bought it from you!!!! After spending a week on Lake Powell I would love a boat... Glad you found such a good family to buy your boat. That's great!
It's funny how hard it can be to sell something like that. I've had that feeling when selling vehicles too - almost guilt, like you are letting them down after all the service they provided! I think your boat will be happy with it's new family!
That must have been so hard. I have always wanted a boat, but we have never had one. With no kids at home, it would probably never get used.
So glad the boat found a good home.
We sold our boat last spring. Like you, it was bittersweet for us. Hank and I enjoyed it quite a bit more than our kids did but we just never have time to go out. It was expensive to maintain considering we just went out in it three or four times a year. I do miss it though. Hopefully we'll be able to get a little creek boat just to putter around in.
I'm glad your boat went to a loving home, that softens the blow. I'm glad your back is getting better Linda. Hope you have a great weekend. Kathi
Glad your family boat could go to a new home, where I am sure it will star in many family memories!
We recently sold a fishing boat on Craigslist, and my hubby had some sadness at it's loss even though he never used it...SIGH!
Loved your blog, please pop over for a visit to my new blog, just launched it today.

Isn't is great to know Ryan and his family will be enjoying so many wonderful times on this very same boat that you and your family enjoyed for years?!!
I know it was difficult for you all to part with the boat, but I'm sure it does give you comfort to know another family will enjoy making memories.
I do hope they take time to share pictures with you.
Oh my! I feel for you. It is always hard to let something go that has so many memories attached.
I was reading your post and thinking we are in the opposite situation.
We bought the RV when the 5 kids were little and we spent the past 17 years camping all over the country and having many, many fabulous trips! Now 3 kids are gone and the 4th has a life (ha ha) so we have only been using it about twice a year for the past couple years. We are thinking of getting a boat!!
Even though 3 of our kids are gone we know they would come home and we could meet them for vacations with the boat and they would love it.
We are the opposite.
So I am now wondering will your kids miss your boat?
