Let's Say A Prayer...

Again, as you know, devastation has hit and our prayers are needed. Let us remember those in Chile and keep them in our prayers today.

Also, I'm sure you've read that Marie Osmond's 18 year old son committed suicide Friday night. We need to keep Marie and her family covered in prayer as well. As a mother, what a horrific thing to go through. My heart just breaks for her.

It's Friday

And I'm nosy...

So here's the question(s):

* Do you use eyeliner?
* Pencil, Liquid, or Gel/Cream?
* Do you find that one particular eyeliner brand works better than another?

I've mentioned before that I'm not good at applying make-up. I've always found this strange because my mom could have been a make-up artist, she's that good. I must have never shown an interest in having her teach me her make-up techniques because she never did. My sisters were smart, they observed and learned.

So how does an old lady like me finally learn some tricks of the trade on applying make-up?

She watches YouTube! Make-Up 101!

I bought the Urban Decay eyeliner pencil yesterday at Sephora. I'll let you know how I like it. I've also started using an eyeshadow primer. Seriously, who knew?

Thrifty Thursday

When you go thrifting, are you drawn to certain areas of the store first? Some of you may head straight to the children's clothing section, some to the ladies clothing area, or perhaps you're drawn to the book displays. For me, I make a beeline straight to the dishes and housewares section.

This always puzzles me because I rarely cook anymore. Sometimes it feels like a waste of time to cook for just 2 people so we just play it by ear these days. I work 2-3 days a week and I most definitely don't cook on work days. I'm so exhausted when I get home I can barely stand up, much less cook.

With that being said, let me show you the cookware I recently found at the Goodwill.

I think both of these pieces are brand new as there isn't a mark on them. The rectangular dish was $2 and the covered casserole dish was $4. I think they'll be perfect to use next Christmas because they're so versatile. I'm sure I'll be using them at home and they'll work great for Christmas potlucks. There aren't any markings on the bottom of either dish so I'm not sure if I can use them in the oven or microwave. I'll have to experiment with them to see.

I also found this darling plate. It has little holes all around the plate that you can thread ribbon through for decoration. Even though I don't cook much these days, I do bake now and then. It will be fun to change out the ribbon and use the plate at the different holidays. Again, very versatile!

Have a great Thrifty Thursday!

Before Christmas, I asked my blogging friend Donna to paint a portrait of Jake for me. She used the header from my blog to paint this portrait of Jake. As you can see, she is a very talented artist.

About a month ago, my sister Kim had to put her precious cat Babes to sleep after having her for 19 years. As soon as I found out about Babes, I asked Donna to paint a portrait of Babes for my sister. Again, she did an amazing job.

Without my sister knowing it, I emailed Donna a picture of Babes. Donna captured Babes perfectly and my sister cried and cried when I gave it to her for Valentine's Day. Both of these paintings are treasures to us.

If you would like to have a portrait done of your 4-legged baby, contact Donna at http://donnas-art.blogspot.com. She is a talented artist and a sweet blogging friend too!

Monday Miscellany

* I worked Friday and Saturday and it was so good to see everyone, both the patients and my co-workers. I mentioned on Facebook Friday night that although the day went well, I 1) had a massive headache 2) had an incredible backache and 3) had a throbbing ankle by the end of the day. Other than that, everything went great!

* Saturday I was feeling much better physically when I went home, plus we had a really nice day at work. Saturdays usually are either really good days or really bad days, it can go either way. Thankfully, Saturday was a dream.

* I work again today and tomorrow, then I'm off for a week.

* I went to the gym yesterday for the first time since November. It felt so good to get out and exercise again.

* I got a new car last week. Do any of you hate the car buying process as much as I do!? Since I put on so few miles each year, we've found that leasing works well for me. This is my third leased car. I wasn't ready to give up my car just yet but the lease was up so I didn't have a choice. I ended up getting the same car, just new.

* I've reconnected with a few friends from Jr. High School/High School on Facebook. One of them just had her 17 year old son pass away unexpectedly. I don't know the details but I feel so bad for her. This was her baby, her affectionate child, and the one who she says always said "I love you Mom!" Please keep Debbie and her family in your prayers.

Have a great Monday!

It's Friday

And I'm nosy...

So here's the question: What time do you get up in the morning? Are you a morning person or are you a night owl?

Well friends, that fateful day has arrived for me. Today is my first day back at work after being off for 10 weeks. My last day at work was the day before Thanksgiving!

Sooo, today I was up by 3:45am and out the door by 4:40am. I start work at 5:00am. Even though I've had this schedule for 7 years, it's hard for me. I've always been a night owl.

Normally, on non-work days, I wake up early automatically but can fall back asleep. I'm not gonna lie, I've never been a morning person but have been one out of necessity. Some days I'm up and at it fairly early, other days not, it just depends on what's going on. If I've just finished working 3 12-hour shifts in a row, I'm lucky if I'm dressed by noon that following day!

One thing is certain, it's quite different when your kids leave the nest. With no kids to wake up in the morning, no more carpools to drive, and no more breakfasts or lunches to make in the morning, your schedule is your own!

Thrifty Thursday

A few weeks ago I stopped by the Goodwill while I was out running errands. I realize I'm stopping by the Goodwill at least once a week now to look for Thrifty Thursday finds so that I can link up with Leigh over at Bloggeritaville. So far, Goodwill hasn't let me down!

So when I was there, right away I spotted something that I've always thought about getting but never have. Brand new, still in the box and all wrapped up, was a digital picture frame.

Do any of you have one of these? I don't plan on keeping it out all the time but I thought it would be fun to use at the holidays or for special occassions. I've seen them sold for well over $100 so when I saw it was $19.00, I didn't hesitate. I think it was a great thrifty find!

Good Food, Good Weather, Good Friends...

Do you ever have a weekend that you hate to see come to an end? This past weekend was like that for me. I don't know why this camping club weekend was any different from the others but it was so enjoyable. The food, the weather, the people, I loved every minute of it!

We arrived at the RV park before dark Thursday night and I immediately got busy cleaning. We recently had some minor work done on the RV so it was really dusty from sitting at the shop. I'm so glad I took the time to clean because all weekend our RV seemed to be the hub of activity. Every time I turned around someone was knocking on the screen door saying "Linda...." I think at one point there was 9 or 10 of us in the RV talking and just hanging out before dinner on Saturday.

Friday night 17 of us went out for a delicious Italian dinner. They put us in our own private room and boy was that smart on their part. We can be one loud group when we get together. I tried to get a picture of each of the couples but it looks like I missed 2. In one of the pictures you'll see an older lady with gray hair and glasses. She is our friend Janet's mother. Janet's father passed away only 3 weeks ago and Janet knew it would be hard for her mother on Valentine's Day so she brought her with them to the campout. Janet's parents had been married for 61 years when her father passed away.

The RV park is known for the mineral hot springs that are on site. They have 4 mineral pools, each varying in temperature, plus a large heated swimming pool. Saturday afternoon I soaked in the 100+ degree pool and it felt so good on my ankle. I'm having a problem with my ankle being stiff and it's still some what swollen, so the mineral pool seemed to be good therapy.

As usual, Saturday night was our potluck. I made cupcakes (surprise surprise!) and at my husband's request, homemade macaroni and cheese. I was all set to try a new baked chicken recipe but he mentioned mac and cheese. There wasn't one noodle left in the dish so it was well received. I usually make homemade mac and cheese once or twice a year at the campouts because we have kids that camp with us and they always love it.

Here are a few random pictures from the potluck...

As you can see, the weather was gorgeous. We were in the desert and it reached the high 70's during the day. It was cold at night but certainly wasn't unbearable. The whole weekend was just delightful in every way!

I'm already counting down the days until next month's camping club weekend! Good food, good weather, good friends!

Ok...I Think I'm Done Now!

It's 2:00am Thursday morning and I'm still up! I've been busy as a bee since Wednesday afternoon getting things ready to put in the RV, shopping, baking, delivering early Valentine's Day treats (since we won't be home this weekend), doing laundry, addressing Valentine cards, making out a last minute grocery list, etc., etc., etc. The only thing left to do is gather up my clothes and I'll be ready to roll. Howard will be so proud of me (when he gets up in 3 hours!) and sees that I'm organized and ready to go. Usually I'm running around, scrambling at the last minute to get things done, but then again, I've always been working so you have to factor exhaustion into the equation. I have to admit, being off work these last few months has allowed me to be more organized than ever, and life has been pretty much stress free (as stress free as it can be when you have a broken ankle). It's been a welcomed relief.

When we go on these RV trips, I like to have things pretty much done prior to leaving if possible. I want to be able to relax, enjoy the company, and not be pressured to get things done. Lord knows, cooking meals is pressure enough. I knew I wanted to bring goodies to friends with it being Valentine's Day weekend so I did all of my baking and gift assembling before hand. Here are a few of the treats I'll be giving to friends.

Cupcakes, all packaged up pretty and ready to go...

I also made 7 big heart chocolate chip cookies. Actually I made more than 7 but threw out the first batch because I think the flour was old. I put each cookie in a big baggie, put a cute personalized sticker and ribbon on it, and now they're ready to go.

I'm also bringing "sundaes", remember these...

I wish you all lived close enough so that I could bring you one of these Valentine's Day treats, because I HEART you! All of you!

Wordless Wednesday

*********************************************************

This weekend is camping club weekend! Of course, we will be celebrating Valentine's Day so I've got alot of work to do today. I'm hoping to make BIG heart shaped chocolate chip cookies, decorate them, wrap them, then give them out this weekend. Plus, I need to figure out what food I'll be bringing to the campout.

If you've been reading my blog for very long, you know that our camping friends eat very well at the campouts! No hot dogs and beans for this group! Nope, no way! Believe me, I've tried! It's always a challenge for me, the cooking impaired girl, to come up with winners because remember, I camp with gourmet cooks...and that's the truth! Luckily, there are lots and lots of cooking blogs to get great ideas from. Guess I'd better get browsing!

A Valentine Gift Idea

I saw an idea somewhere out there in blogland weeks ago and knew it was something I wanted to do for Valentine's Day this year myself. They turned out absolutely adorable and were fun to make. Take a look at the finished product...

Have you ever seen anything so cute! I made 4 and when you break it down, each cost about $5 to make.

Here's what you'll need to make your own "sundae"

~ one sundae glass
~ m&ms
~ styrofoam
~ candy (I used peppermint nougats)
~ straw
~ hot glue gun
~ ribbon

I didn't have any sundae glasses on hand so I headed to the Goodwill and was lucky enough to find 4 @ $1.00 each. I soaked them in bleach before I used them since they were second hand. After cleaning them up, I tied a ribbon on the bottom and they were ready for the m&m's...

I took a medium sized styrofoam ball and cut one end of the styrofoam to make it flat, then just started randomly hot gluing the candy onto the styrofoam, making it full and symmetrical. Since the styrofoam was a little smaller than the rim of the glass, I put a toothpick in the styrofoam to help secure it down into the m&m's.

To finish off the look, I took one straw, cut it in half and hot glued the pieces on.

We will be getting together with friends this weekend for Valentine's Day and I've got one for each couple. What a great centerpiece wouldn't you say! When I originally saw this idea, I wanted to make them for my college daughter and her roommates but decided against it. I don't know how they would hold up being packed and shipped to Arizona!

(I wish I could remember where I originally saw his idea so I could give credit where credit is due but I blog hop so much I couldn't tell you. Thank you fellow blogger for the great idea!)

There's A First Time For Everything

And last week was the first time I had ever tried this...

Am I the only one out there who had never heard of or tried Fry Sauce before?

A few weeks back my blogging buddie Andie, who was visiting relatives in Utah, mentioned Fry Sauce in one of her posts. I commented that I had never tried it and low and behold, that sweetheart sent us a bottle. She said she couldn't picture me going through life without ever trying Fry Sauce!

Not only did I try it, but I bent my "no fries" rule and went to Wendy's for some fries. Wendy's has the best fries and if I'm going to bend the rules, I might as well go for the best! I've given up french fries completely and haven't had any in months but I wanted to taste it for myself...

Pretty darn good stuff I might add! It tastes like Thousand Island dressing and I love Thousand Island dressing! We don't have Fry Sauce here in CA (is it only a Utah thing?) but Thousand Island dressing or a mayo/ketchup mixture would be the next best thing.

Thank you Andie for making sure life didn't pass me by without trying Fry Sauce. My life is now complete!

I Have A Question For You...And It's Not Friday!

I know you're all probably busy watching the Super Bowl game but I'm curious about something and thought maybe you guys could help me figure it out.

I don't know if it was something that was set up in blogger, my computer, yahoo, or what, but I used to get a pop up box in the lower right hand corner of my screen telling me if I had a message or comment that had come in. I could be browsing websites or looking at blogs and all of a sudden, a horizontal box would pop up if someone had just left me a message, then the box would disappear and I could then go to my inbox to read the comment.

Does any of this sound familiar? Do you get these pop up messages? It hasn't happened since I got my new computer so I'm thinking I must have had something set somewhere. Who knows, it's all a mystery to me now!

Anyways, it's a pretty blah day here today, weather included. My husband had to go out of town for a few days so I don't even have the TV on. I'm thinking about turning on the game and doing some ironing while I'm at it. I know I know, I live an exciting life don't I!?!

To tell you the truth, I'm feeling kinda bummed. My sister who lives near me is having a Super Bowl party today with lots of friends and food but hubby and I never seem to be invited to their gatherings. Granted, they are "party people" and we don't drink, and we're really not into football like they are, but still. I probably wouldn't even have gone over but the offer to join in would have been nice. I called yesterday to see if I could stop by to drop off a special gift I had made for her but she was on her way to Smart and Final, stocking up for today I'm sure. Normally it wouldn't bother me but it is today.

My brother-in-law was talking about his game day cooking on Facebook. It didn't bother me at all until his neighbor's sister commented on how she's looking forward to today. His neighbor's sister...

I do want to say that I love my sister dearly and she's a sweetheart, but I guess we just think differently, and we definitely lead different lives. What crosses my mind probably never occurs to her. She would feel terrible if she thought I was feeling slighted. She's never had a malicious bone in her body.

I'll be over it by tomorrow.

It's Friday

And I'm nosy...

So here's the question: If you had a choice between conversation hearts or Sweet tarts, which would you choose?

or

It would be Sweet tarts for me. For some reason, I've never cared for the conversation hearts, maybe because they taste chalky. But I've always loved sweet tarts!
