It's Friday

And I'm nosy...

So here's the question(s):

1) When do the kids in your area start back to school?
2) Do you have kids of your own that will be starting back to school soon?
3) Do you enjoy back to school shopping?

The kids in our area start back to school on August 23rd. Is it just me or does it seem like school starts earlier and earlier each year!? When I was growing up, we didn't start back to school until after Labor Day, but then again we didn't get out for summer vacation as early as they do now either.

I don't have any back to schoolers living at home any more but my college daughter will be starting her senior year in just a few short weeks! Talk about time zooming by!

We don't have any back to schoolers in the neighborhood anymore either. All of the kids have grown up and moved away. We'll be getting new neighbors directly across the street from us very soon and they have small children. I'm so excited!

I always enjoyed back to school shopping with my kids. It was such a fun time. I miss all of the hoopla, excitement, and anticipation that a new school year brings. I may just have to go hang out at the Target back to school section for awhile!

School has started for us. Connor (8) started last week, and Taylor (14) started this week. It seems crazy early, but they are ready for it. Now we'll look forward to two weeks off in Oct.

I do like school shopping. But then I like any kind of shopping.

I hate that school starts up so soon. In our area it starts around Labor day. My kids are all done, even with college.

I was just thinking about this today, Linda, because I am at the lake and years ago we did the school shopping up here so we had less to do when we got home a week before school. My best memory is watching them put their names on all their notebooks and crayons and bookbags so carefully. Everything was so fresh and new for about a month!! lol! Worst memory was how expensive it was for all the supplies for 4 kids.

I have 2 daughter left in college. They go year round and it is always something they need. Le sigh...but I LOVE it!

Hi Linda,

I just have one child in school but she will be attending college this year so she will not be starting until the first of september but if she were still in high school she would be going back next wednesday. Yes, we have quite a few school kids in our neighborhood.

I loved going shopping for school clothes for the kids. I did a little bit for Kaitlyn but she pretty well goes out on her own and gets her own things. I can't believe how fast they have grown up.

Just seemed like yesterday that I was walking both my kids to elementary school. Wow, how time has flown by. My son is now married and my daughter in college. Where have all the years gone.

1.My school (job) doesn't start until Sept. 1st. But I'm back at it.
2. No student at our house.
3. We use to do school shopping in Oct. Both of our kids had grow spurts right around Sept. and grew out of their new cloths by Oct.

Hi Linda,

1) When do the kids in your area start back to school?
My daughter will start kindergarten on Wed the 25th. It's bittersweet, just another life milestone as being a widow and my late husband not getting to share this with me.

2) Do you have kids of your own that will be starting back to school soon?
Yes, and I've already got most of the shopping done.

3) Do you enjoy back to school shopping? I do enjoy it. I don't like the part where I go into the stores and the 6x clothing in the girls department is trying to make her look like she's a preteen already. Ughhh. I think the only thing left is purchasing the school supplies.

Have a great weekend.

Hi Linda,
No little ones here going back to school but Michael starts his senior year in college too! I think the elementary and high school kids go back the Wed after Labor Day which is Sept 8th, however a few times they did go back before Labor Day. Time certainly does fly. I loved back to school shopping too. All those new pencils, colored markers, notebooks, and boxes of fresh new crayons. (I always have to take a whiff of new crayons) Then all the new clothes. That was always a fun time! Hope you are doing well my friend! Hugs

School starts here Monday. I have to work while the kids are in school so it's pretty much the same around here but I do like the routine of school. (Usually.)

My kids go back the 30th, right before Labor Day weekend. I always think they should just wait till after.

I LOVE back to school shopping and will be doing it this week with my boys!

School already started down here in Atlanta earlier this week...in ridiculous heat for those poor kids...I liked when we lived in Jersey and school started after labor day...it's been a long time having a student in the house...Daughter just celebrated her 10 year law school reunion.
Boy...am I getting old!

We live in the hot south, and believe it or not....contrary to logic, kids will start school tomorrow, August 9! Insane! It is sooooooo hot right now! Our kids are grown, but my DIL tells me that the back to school supply list for her 3 pre-schoolers will cost about $200! Yikes! Having been a teacher, myself, I always enjoyed my new pens, markers, fresh start, new class rolls. Linda

I have never liked back to school shopping. My teen daughter starts on August 13th, half day then full starting on the 16th.
And yes they do start back way earlier than we ever did.

School starts here on the 24th and the kids get out the Thursday before Memorial Day. When my oldest started school, I made all their school clothes, jeans, shirts, jumpers, etc. By the time they were in 2nd grade, they asked if we couldn't just buy school clothes. Any more, it's cheaper to get the clothes on sale than it is to sew.
I don't have any more in school. My youngest is starting at the University on the 24th and my daughter who's coming back from El Salvador, starts about the same time.

Since I work in the school district, I'm still on top of things but in a different way.

I guess because I was in New Orleans on friday I missed this post. No, I don't have any children going back to school and I miss all of that. The kids here go back on Aug. 12th, talk about early! I still can't get use to it and I have been in the south now for 4 years. We also went back to school after Labor Day. Unfortunately we have one family close by whose children are still in school but their folks drive them so I don't even get to see a school bus...dang.

What is so great for me, is this is the first time in 20 years, that I don't have anyone going back to school. Okay, Luka will start at UVU - but I don't have to do any registrations, school shopping or paying fees.

I am beyond giddy!

I can't believe the summer went so fast. I don't have any kids to get ready for school either. It feels weird. I sorta miss it.

Linda, thank you SO much for Luci's package. It made her feel special! She will be sending you a thank you note but I just wanted to tell you she has started reading the book already and she brought it to school today so that she could read it when she gets free time after finishing her school work. I appreciate your thoughtfulness. She is doing really well and I am amazed by how quickly she has bounced back!

HI LINDAJAKE!!!!
So sorry if I missed you in AZ, but it has been absolutely crazy around here!!!
School begins here in late July as they go year around!!!School starts in late july, they go 9 weeks and get 2 weeks off for fall break, go 9 weeks get 3 weeks off for CHRISTMAS--no winter break out of my mouth!!!Then 9 weeks and 2 weeks off for spring and then 9 more and they are done, a 6 week summer break is all they get, but it works and MOST love it!!I always got our kids new outfits and shoes for back to school, my girls say that was the best part!!Once there new clothes had all been worn they were back to oh yuck--school!!Mostly it was the getting to bed--getting up early part they hated!they were so busy--cheerleading--dancing--golf--volleyball-basketball-tennis and then our son played football and basketball, they we ran ran ran!!So routines were a must!!
But gone are those busy hectic times!!I miss them but I don't!!!
haha
hugs,
jamie

I kinda miss the "rush" of geetting kids ready for school. Picking out new cloths, supplies, all the anticipation.

Now I get to listen to my grandkids school experiences.
