We found out that Dr. K was involved in an on again/off again relationship with a professional man here and she had gone to his house last Saturday to talk with him. He didn't want a confrontation so he slipped out of the house without her knowing it and spent the night at a hotel. In the meantime, she tried to pound in the back door with a shovel. When that didn't work, she did something so unreal, so stupid.
Dr. K climbed up a ladder at the back of the house, slid down the chimney feet first, and proceeded to get stuck in the chimney. She was there for 4 days without anyone ever knowing it, in 100+ temps. This was a beautiful, vibrant 49 year old woman who had her 50th birthday while in that chimney. The coroner said she died of suffocation.
Dr. K's boyfriend spoke out in the paper yesterday. He doesn't want our city to bad mouth her for the terrible lack of judgement on her part, a lack of judgement that cost a prominent medical school graduate her life.
Working around doctors for so many years, I've seen odd behavior more times than I can count. Doctors so unbelievably intelligent, yet so stupid about real life. Doctors who have been banned from facilities due to irrational behavior. A doctor who is at the top of his field yet is standing there with unmatched socks. One brown sock and one blue one. Oblivious!
Here is a picture of Dr. K. May she rest in peace.

Wow! That is truly a shame. Such a crazy thing from someone who was obviously intelligent.
Wow what a story!! I'm speechless
That is some story...hard to believe and really so sad.
I read that story in our paper here! Bizzare! I will admit, I if the boyfriend knew she was in the chimney but decided it was easier to just let her pass than continue to deal with what must have been a very bad situation. The math doesn't quite add up- but that's just me being suspicious.
There's a reason the Santa story is a myth. I do feel bad for her- those last hours of her life must have been pretty awful.
what a terrible thing. I can not even imagine.
I will take common sense anyday over book smarts.
UNBELIEVABLE!
OH MY! This is so sad, smart people do stupid stuff all the time, they just don't get caught!A tragic and terrible end to a beautiful womans life.
Hi Linda,
I read that story or saw it on Fox News, and I was stunned to say the least, I at first--this is honestly what I said "What a DUMB Woman", but then I have Never walked in her shoes and she MUST have felt betrayed beyond words and Lost in some way, that she would do something so IRRATIONAL, makes me think of the Astronaut lady who planned on kidnapping or killing the lover of her love, drove all those miles in a diaper.
HOW Very sad for this woman's family, I feel so very sorry for them
hugs,
jamie
I read about that!!!!! That is horrific!
Very sad and stupid....
anyway...how are things going and how is Jake/wheels doing??? Little Sweet Pea is keeping me going, and going...
Warmly,
deb :)
Oh My Gosh....I cannot believe she spent her last hours in a chimney! So very sad!
That is just about the craziest story I've ever heard! Once I got past thinking what a crazy woman she was I actually felt compassion for her--she must have been in a lot of emotional pain (not to mention the physical pain of being stuck in a chimney for four days).
Wow, this is one that is hard to believe that anyone would do something like this. Jackie
I saw the story on the News. How bizarre! But I know what you mean about very intelligent folks not being very sensible. What a tragic loss of a talented doctor.
i read aout this...i couldnt believe it!
How did I miss this story all I ever do is watch the news...This poor women was more then just stupid in her judgement. She sounded like she was in dire need of emotional help. I hope she is at peace but what a horrible way to die.
How sad. I can't imagine what she felt as she was stuck there. And then the other part of me wonders why she just didn't break a window to get in if she was that desperate.
I was told by my son's teacher that many highly intelligent and gifted people lack common sense. I see it in my oldest, although he is getting better.
I heard about this story on the news! Crazy!
We had a doc at our clinic years ago, with absolutely NO common sense. Brilliant man, but not an ounce of smarts.
So sad for Dr K
I also heard about this one on the local news, but I guess I didn't realize she was a doctor - not that it makes any difference. I work indirectly with doctors, and I'm always surprised at how astounding intelligence so often doesn't translate to common sense. Odd, isn't it?
WHAT.... no way, poor lady!!!
Wow, that is so sad just reminds me of the stupid things a woman will do when she believes she is in love. Heart ruling head. I have been there many times and dred the day will I will do something stupid again in the name of love or rejection. Her partner was a chicken, should have just been a man and opened the door and had it out with her and cleared the air. Think I'll have to blog about this if you don't mind,

Oh my, what a horrific way to die. I am so sorry for her and her family. What a sad story.
This story is so sad.
