My How Things Have Changed!

When I started this blog back in February 2008, it was a completely different world in terms of blogging. It makes me sad that things have changed so much. I look around and no one has the cute little backgrounds that we installed ourselves for free (i.e., mine!) and changed up for each holiday. Instead, now I see that all blogs are professional and sophisticated in style, with each new blog being more beautiful than the next.

And with all of the gorgeous photos, oh please, don't even get me started!

It's no wonder that so many of the women I started blogging with don't blog anymore. I, too, stopped blogging for quite sometime but realized how much I missed it.

I simply loved blogging and made so many wonderful, dear friends but it feels slightly odd this time around. It's different now, not so down to earth so to speak. Maybe I'm just reading more "professional" blogs where it's become a job, an online and/or home based business.

I'm certainly glad that blogging has been financially rewarding for so many women and it makes me proud that our efforts and hard work have paid off. The talent in blogland is incredible and I'm ALWAYS happy to see women succeed, but on the other hand, I'm sad that something so fun, innocent, and personal has become so highly commercialized with all of the advertising and such.

Maybe I just need to get with the program, and I will have to soon, like it or not.

For you "old time bloggers" out there, I'd love to hear your opinions as well.

Blogging has indeed changed a TON! Once Facebook took over, it seems that everyone posts their thoughts, pictures and funnies there. With google reader going away, many of us lost our favorite blogs as well. I find that the traffic to my blog is still pretty high, but few people comment. Those seem to dust in the wind :) which is okay for the few of us that blog for the intent of a journal of sorts. My son has bugged and bugged me to advertise on my blog and make money, but I refuse. It's just for fun!

I'm with you 100 percent. Technically I am lost, it took me months to figure out how to get to my dashboard, etc. And lots of the old regulars aren't regular bloggers anymore. At times I have to step back from reading the fancy ones...if I am not careful I allow them to make me feel inferior and I have to remind myself that blogs are a full time job to some.

glad you are back!

I miss the old blogging ways. I agree that what started out as people connecting as people turned into something entirely different. I miss the wonderful friends that I made in this crazy little blogosphere.

I'm still blogging away "old school" style. My blog was and still is just my family journal so I never looked to go professional and try to make money from it. Happy to "see" you again!

I'm staying an "old fashion gal" with my blog! I don't like seeing all the advertising on blogs...that isn't blogging...and the only "fancy" thing I've discovered is "picmonkey" to make my banners/headers. I still don't have any idea on how you get the pretty stuff on the side...LOL!
Warmly,
deb

I'm a few years late here, but I agree with you and your friends. It's just not what it used to be. I don't particularly like the blogs with advertising, but then I think perhaps it's the only way they make a little money. My "readership" has changed significantly although as with everyone, I can see so many who viewed and didn't comment. However, I don't blog every day, but I still love to keep in touch with those who do. xoxo
