I Hit The Mother Load!

On the way home from work the other night I thought I'd swing by the Goodwill to look for a used stroller. Normally I would have never thought of going to the Goodwill but I've seen some of the great finds that fellow bloggers have found second hand so I thought I'd give it a try too.

A stroller you might ask!?! For a lady whose got no kiddos around, no grandkids, nothing! Yep, I was looking for a stroller for my little Jake. He has to be completely immobile for another 5-6 weeks so I thought a stroller would be a good way for me to take him from room to room with me. He's kept in a crate and we tote it from place to place which is fine but I thought something on wheels might be a little easier.

Unfortunately, there were no strollers to be found but wait until you see what I did find. I'll tellin' ya, I hit the mother load. Here is the before picture of my new treasures...

Five pieces of heavy duty, beautiful silver. They were pretty dirty and tarnished but it was nothing that I couldn't clean up. I've been wanting to redo my china cabinet to include some silver and a few of these will work perfectly.

I scrubbed and scrubbed with tarnish remover and they shined up so nicely. Here is what the silver pieces look like now, all spiffied up...

The best part about this was the price. I got all 5 pieces of silver for $19.00 which was incredible. With the help of the Internet, I'm going to do some research. Each piece of silver is stamped with the manufacturer's name and a number. I wonder how much these would have been originally? Needless to say, I'm now a Goodwill shopper convert!

What a GREAT find! I have a huge sterling collection from garage sales and thrift stores. Most of the pieces you will find are silver plate. But I have lucked out and scored a few rare solid sterling pieces.

They are so beautiful all shined up! That must have taken you all day.

Linda,

You really did hit the Mother Load. Congrats!

I hope you find something for poor Jake, if you lived near me I would have let you borrow this pet stroller my mom bought us for about $28.00 from Lillian Vernon, I think. You could check it out on line.

Ya gotta love an amazing bargain like that!!! It's hard work keeping it shiney...but nothing add sparkle to a china hutch quite like silver. Now I hope you find that stroller soon too!

Wow,impressive! I love finds like that. I want to see a picture of your china cabinet when you're finished revamping.

I've become more of a thrift store shopper since I started costuming high school musicals several years ago. Sometimes I'll buy something just for the cool buttons. I love the adventure of never knowing what treasure you may find!

Uh oh...you've caught the 'thrifting' bug. Sorry to tell you, but there has been no cure discovered for this contagious bug. You're forever doomed to finding awesome bargains at prices that will throw you into spasms of joy.
You're doomed I tell you...doomed!
Fun, fun fun!

My sister-in-law shops at stores like this and finds all kinds of cute clothes. She was just showing me several the other day and sharing the great deal she got them for.

You did great on your purchases! Those trays are beautiful. I'll be anxious to see what they're worth. Fun!

I love Goodwill, which is how we can keep Caroline in Roxy and Billabong -- my little skateboard girl. Last week, I bought the cutest brown corduroy Ann Taylor jacket for $5. It looks like it was never worn. It is worth the time rummaging through things. Love the silver -- way to go!
