It's Friday

And I'm nosy...

So here's the question: Thanksgiving is less than 2 weeks away and I know were all thinking about our dinner menus right about now. I have it easier this year because I'll be a guest at my sisters but I'm still thinking about the menu and how it will all come together.

I've seen some great new holiday recipes floating around in blogland already. Do you try new recipes each year or do you stick with your old standards? Normally we stick with our old standards...but maybe this year we can jazz it up a bit!

One more question...do you slice up your turkey before you bring it to the dinner table or do you bring the whole turkey to the table like in this beautiful picture here?

I slice it before the table. We are boring like that. You just super hungry and want to started pigging right away :) That table makes my mouth water.

Yes, we slice before bringing it to the table. I usually stick to the same menu. But have added a couple new dishes as they strike my fancy. One is a yummy rice dish made with wild rice, carmelized onions, cranberries. I'll be posting it on my blog on Mon. The other, which has become a TG/BD tradition for my oldest (she'll be 21 on the 30th) is called Cranberry Orange Ribbon Dessert. Just a couple of our faves.
Didn't mean to write a book!
Happy Friday.
Brenda :)

You know it 18 yrs of marriage I have only made Thanksgiving dinner twice.. This year we have to figure out how to divide our time between my family & Victoria wants to celebrate Christmas that day too... I'm already stressed over it & don't know how to tell Victoria that's not a good day, when she has it all planned out..

We stick to mostly the same menu. If anything is changed it's things like salad. The men especially don't like change! We slice the turkey before it comes to the table.

Same old same old. My family loves the standards. I always cut up the bird before I bring it to the table, but it does look pretty.

We slice before too. I'm all about the practical!
And, as everyone else, we stick to the same menu too.
There's something comforting about it.

Since my mom typically fixes the Turkey and has to travel hours to get to my sister's home or mine. She fixes the Turkey ahead of time, slices it and freezes it. She lets it thaw on the way to THE DINNER. It actually taste good.

My sister always fixes new things, me it just depends on how much time I have.

We have so many at our Thanksgiving lunch....we have it buffet style, but we do cut it up before.
And I'm always the one to bring desserts and they all always tell me to bring pecan pies.
My husband and I can pickled beets and pickled okra each summer and that's something else we're always told to bring. It's pretty much the same 'ole, same 'ole.
We have a great lunch though. I look so forward to it every year.

Thanksgiving isn't as exciting up here in Canada, since their's is in October - the fun is already out of everyon by then! However, when we are in the states and Thanksgiving is in full swing, we carve the turkey before going to the table, and always make the same things! They aren't that unique, but they sure taste good Linda! Love, MIchelle :)

Hi Linda! I owe you a HUGE appology! I did receive your wonderful gift in the mail. I took pictures and everything and I still am going to blog about it. But I do appologize for not coming right over to thank you. I loved the beautiful napkins and the gorgeous rose plaque. You are so sweet to surprise me like that! It came the week of the wedding, right when I needed it! I really appreciated your sweet kindness and I want you to know that it made my day. Please forgive me for forgetting to come over and tell you thank you!

As far as Thanksgiving goes, I like to serve the turkey whole, but if it doesn't cook pretty, then we slice it!

I hope you have an awesome weekend!

Hugs, Sharon

I have a wonderful pumpkin roll that I will post about! It is so good.

I don't slice at all. Jim slices before the table, just makes it easier. m

We definitely slice it before bringing it to the table - and we tend to make the same things each year. This year I'm going to try something new, though. Not sure what yet!

I believe I will be eating a cornish game hen...a very non-typical bird for Thanksgiving for me.
But, I always bring the bird to the table CUT and ready to eat. The legs are laying there and the desirable "WISH BONE". I love when someone new comes for the holiday, because I always ask them to bring something that reminds them of Thanksgiving...it was the first time I ever tried the campbell soup green bean cassarole.
I always like new ideas with the Traditonal ones

I slice it in the kitchen first. I tweak recipes according to inspiration but I rarely try out more than one new recipe for holiday dinners. If I have time then I try them out a few weeks ahead time.

We usually go to my in-laws for Thanksgiving every year. Since the atmosphere is pretty casual around there and there's a lot of people over, my mother-in-law slices it beforehand for the buffet set-up. I bring a side dish - usually whatever I'm asked to bring. Bobby's family is really laidback and we all have a good time together. Oh, I just remembered one thing the kids INSIST their mother makes at EVERY gathering...banana pudding (now even all the grandkids ask for it)!

Have a great weekend!

We slice the turkey before bringing it to the table AND we usually don't try new recipes. Why fix it if it isn't broken?LOL!

Look at us all... slice it before and nothing new. I think THAT IS called tradition!

Hi Linda,
I slice the turkey before serving and we will celebrate Thanksgiving on that Saturday as that works out for my kids. So on Thanksgiving we'll be having soup and bread, which I served last year. It's very relaxing. How's the little guy doing??
Warmly,
Deb

I love the look of the bird on the table, but I have my dh slice it before serving. The last several years, we have gone camping in the desert, so our Thanksgiving dinner has adjusted just a tad -- still all the yummy's, though.

Hi Linda, thanks for stopping by--it's always nice to meet another book lover!

At our house we stick to the same menu. I occasionally try something new in addition, but can never leave any of the "old favorites" out! We slice our turkey before bringing it to the table.

This is a great post, Linda. My husband cuts the turkey before sitting it on the table. Hmm, I kind of like the photo you posted. The whole turkey sitting on the table sure looks good in pictures! :)

I am so glad to read that Jake is feeling better. He has been on my mind. He is such a cutie! How old is he?

I was just reading about the fires in California. Is this anywhere near you? I feel so sorry for those who have lost their homes.
I'm keeping them in my thoughts and prayers.
