A Space Of My Own...

Our daughter (aka Little Sis) is a sophomore in college. She's been in Arizona for a year and a half now and I've yet to do anything to her room. I pass by her door 10 times a day but I never go in. As proud of her as I am, it makes me sad that she's not here with us. I miss her!

Little Sis has insisted that she's not coming home for Spring Break and may only come home "for about a week" this summer. All of the roommates are getting jobs and staying in AZ for the summer so she wants to do the same.

I give her about 2 weeks in that heat and she'll be heading for home...but, since she's adamant about staying in AZ...

Maybe I'll just fix up her room to be a space of my own! What do ya think!?!! I think it sounds like a plan!

I can't bare the thought of moving all of her furniture out just yet so I'll work around it. If you remember from previous posts, hubby snores so loud he could wake the dead, so having her bed comes in handy. During Christmas break, she had already boxed up 3/4 of her things and put them in her closet, so the rest should be easy.

I've washed the walls, windows, shutters, ceiling fan, and baseboards. Remember, it's occupied a teenager/college student so it hasn't been this clean in forever! This room has great bones...oh this is gonna be so fun...oh, I mean this is gonna be so sad...for about 5 minutes!

Stay tuned!

I'm dreading the day when Brittany heads off to college in 2010...it will be a very sad day for me. She, on the other hand, is ready to stretch her wings and fly!

I can't wait to see what, if anything, you decide to do with her room! Do keep us posted!

It is hard! I couldnt do anything to my kids rooms for the longest. Now their bedrooms are guest rooms. (or their rooms when they come home with their spouses and the grandbaby!) have fun with the room!

We waited until our son graduated from college to change his room and my husband insists that we have to do the same for our daughter. I'm ready to do it now...it at least needs to be painted from where she stuck all manner of picture and poster on the walls.

The room has such possibilities. Keep us updated. It will not get hot in AZ for a few more months. But when it hits 122 she may be back for a visit. m

You are overcoming!
That's a great desk area to work with.
Yes, your daughter might be changing when it starts getting in the 115 degree range!
Yikes!

I went through this too. My daughter lived at home when she first went to college, but then lived with friends for a while, before coming back again. When she got married though - I got her room. I made it into a scrapbooking/computer room and I've so enjoyed having it! You will too.

Hi Linda ~ I waited a whole year before I did anything with Cassie's room. Now it's my craft room...hehehehe...she says she likes it. When she comes home, she just stays at her boyfriends house, so it's not like she needs a place to sleep or anything!

Can't wait to see the finished room!

Hugz,
Michele

sounds heavenly.
i think long and hard about what to do with it. you want it just perfect.
i think a big desk, a post office scale, wrapping station, and a tv would be lovely.

Thank you so much for the ♥'s package. it arrived Saturday evening!!! I loved it, and so did William and the kids.
Watch for a package from me soon!

You're so good to me girl!

hahaha.....been there, done that. One moved out and the older still at home took his space, and the daughter moved upstairs into his vacated space....left me with a small room downstairs, but i have to tell you, I'm really wanting the larger room upstairs that college son left......maybe not quite yet, but it's not far off!!! I do miss him, but that room's much bigger!! :)

Suzanne
Enjoy fixing up your new space, and yes, I understand about the extra bed coming in handy when it's too loud in my own bed!!!!LOL

(tee, hee) It is hard when the kids leave home....but I am sure you are excited she is doing something productive with herself.......and now you can branch out yourself..(between sobs) fix up her room (dab your eyes) CHANGE her room (giggling) pretty much move her out!! Changes are fun and Hard.

How fun to have a blank canvas! I say make it a guest room/office/library where you can sit and have tea and blog a little or read a book. I love that desk, is it built in?

Happy Tuesday!

You will make that room into something she's going to be excited to come see.. And boy I would run home to CA at the chance to get out of this summer heat. How about my kids & I come stay with you while she's here for the summer!!!
I remember my parents never changed a thing in my room. Even after I got married it took a little while for them to at least put things in the drawers. But they never changed the look or furniture. They've been in a new house for about the last 8 yrs & it has never been "Home" to me.. Not because of my room. It just doesn't have the same feel.

I can not wait to see what fun things you do with it!
It is an odd feeling when they don't "need" a room in their home anymore.

My daddy called me a few years ago wanting to know if I was ever going to move back home. Seriously, dad -- I have been married 15 years -- and with college included I have been out of the now like 25 years! My parents redid my old room and they love it. Enjoy every minute of the new fun space that you will create. XO

Good Morning Miz Linda,
I had an empty nest for about 6 weeks, just long enough to purchase the fabric for new window treatments and move my sewing machine when dear son returned. It was tough though the first couple of weeks he was gone, my husband and I would sit in his room missing him.
I can't wait to see what you decide to do with the room!

I think you are going to enjoy re-doing her room. Have fun with it. I know what you mean about having a bed in another room....my hubby is a loud snorer also and if I wake up while he is roaring I have to go to another bed to get back to sleep :(

I LOVE that picture of you!! You are getting so brave with that camera and self portraits--girlfriend! The space is beautiful--it will be fun to see what you do. I am still back and forth on having some my kids gone--but their rooms were quickly snagged by younger siblings so no vacant areas yet.
