Welcome to Metamorphosis Monday. To participate or to see other Metamorphosis Monday posts, head on over to Susan's. Thank you Susan for being our hostess each week.
We've had some pretty labor intensive work done around the house lately which would make for great Metamorphosis Monday posts but I'm not good at remembering to take before pictures! I'm new to Met Monday so I've got to get in the groove! I do seem to be good at taking pictures of small projects that I've got going on so hopefully they'll pass for Met Monday posts for now.
Have you seen all of the neat homemade chalkboards that have popped up around blogland lately? Truly, each one seems to be more unique than the next. Well, I don't know about you, but this girl has had a love affair with chalkboards since elementary school so I knew this was something I wanted to tackle. I think I missed my calling when I didn't become a teacher!
I had a large painting that I was going to give away to Goodwill but realized it would be perfect for a chalkboard instead. It was a painting with a gold frame and was bordered by an off-white linen around the picture itself. I completely taped off the linen with blue painter's tape so that I wouldn't get any paint on it. I spray painted the frame black and then painted the picture with chalkboard paint. Just spray painted right onto the picture itself and I'd say I gave it about 4 coats of the chalkboard paint. As usual, I forgot to take a before photo of the painting and frame but remembered to take one during the spray painting phase.
When everything was dry, I peeled off the painter's tape and I had myself a homemade chalkboard. I added a monogrammed letter "L" just to spruce it up a bit.
This was a fun, easy, and inexpensive project to do. I put it in my "craft" room/college daughter's room and plan to use it for reminders for myself such as birthdays, appointments, etc. I've also seen this done on plates and silver. The possibilities are endless!
Not a room redo, but a metamorphosis just the same!

Linda-Wow! That looks very professional. I have not tried the chalkboard paint. Gooddwill's loss is your gain! So glad you stopped by-thanks!
Linda, I keep seeing that chalkboard paint and I want to find a place to use it. Great idea, but the monogram "L" (You have a great name :) really makes it classy! That is the extra touch that makes it gorgeous! Linda
Very good Linda ! I love chalkboards too ( I have a couple
in the makings) I love doing stuff
and I too am really thinking about
stuff I normally would donate as
being transformed ! Thanks for sharing ~ Hugs, Kammy
That chalkboard looks great Linda. Have you visited Ruth Ann's Sugar Pie Farmhouse aka Aunt Ruthie. She loves chalkboards too and found a great set of chalk ink pens that come in vibrant colors, don't rub off until you use a wet cloth. They are the chalk ink pens they use at Starbucks on their chalkboards. I have already ordered a set for myself. Here's the link to her site. http://www.sugarpiefarmhouse.com/ Have a great day! Hugs, Loretta
OH! Linda, That's a great idea! Thanks for sharing with us.
Also, thanks for dropping by my place.
Have a marvelous Monday, Marsha
Great transformation for something you weren't using. I like the monogram you put on it. Makes it pop.
You asked about Jamesboro Gold. It is more of a brown with a hint of gold. Not yellow at all.
Love the initial that makes it very classy.
love it, linda!!! i may have to try this one, too:) and those chalkboard pens loretta described above sound like a cool idea to go along with the board:D

That is so cute! I love that.
I did not paint the plates above the bed. I found them out and about. Have you tried glossy spray paint on your plates?

Oh Linda! I love this, I'm trying to think now if I have any old paintings or framed art that I want to part with.
You make me think!!!
I'm a huge fan of "re-thinking" what you already have. Great project!
Hi Linda ~ how stunning! I never think to do chalkboard painting. I'm just so happy these days to actually have weather to paint in!

I LOVE it!!! I have three chalkboards I have made from old pictures and LOVE them all!!!! They definitely come in quite handy...esp. the one right by the front door. That is where I write appt. reminders of all kinds. From dog grooming, Dr.'s appts, to Lexi's functions. PERFECT!
That came out cute! Love the frame! This is my favorite use for old thriftstore paintings!

Hi Linda,
Thank you for stopping by my blog and sharing such sweet comments. I love your chalk board idea! Can't wait to try that on some old prints that I have. I'll be back to visit again.
Very cool indeed --chalkboards frighten me as I remember too many times writing "I will not talk in class, I will not talk in class" I love your crafts and re-do's Linda
Hi Linda,
Came by earlier today and thought I left a comment, but I don't see it. This chalkboard is beautiful! I especially love your little "L". I've bought a can of chalkboard paint...just haven't decided yet what to use it on. You've made me anxious to try it out! = )
Thanks for your encouraging words today. Nice to know my hubby and I aren't the only ones counting the days until our son is home for the summer! ; )
