I recently bought a new camera, one of those nice big zoom lens semi-professional type cameras, although I'm a far cry from even being semi, semi, semi-professional!
I haven't read the manual entirely but for now I've got everything set on "auto". While my pictures certainly are clear, I'm noticing the colors aren't as bright and vivid as I thought they'd be.
So here's the question: If you also use one of these cameras, what settings do you keep it on? Do you get bright, vivid colors in your photographs? Do I need to use photoshop in order to get the best pictures? I've never used photoshop before, it looks intimidating!
I'm lazy and don't want to read the manual from cover to cover right now...so please share and ADVISE!

I usually use the auto settings but my colors turn out good. Good luck - those manuals are overwhelming!
I'm afraid I just have a little Canon Powershot digital camera that I keep on auto but it does take some wonderful pics with nice color. Sorry I couldn't help. Hugs, Loretta
I am so photo-taking challenged that I would be of help to you!
If I were you I would email Robin at Robin's nest -- she is the photo pro. I know she would be happy to help you.
Photoshop seems very intimidating to me. I like picasa because it is easy and free.
Why not get a few photos developed and see the quality of the color. Were you judging from the color on the viewfinder? Nothing wrong with a little enhancement. I use Kodak Easy Share, the program that came with the camers. Most programs should be able to intensify the color. Good luck!
I usually use the auto setting too, but do have to move around to different angles to get the lighting right also. Good luck and have fun learning about your new camera! :-)
My advice is to find someone young and they'll be able to help you.
I work in a high school and they taught me how to "text" and other gadgets on my new phone. I'd be lost without them.
lighting makes a HUGE difference in pictures so play around with that some...outside lighting is SO much better than anything inside
Linda the setting really can make a difference in the color.
My suggestion would be to do a "google search" on the camera and lens you have. There are many, many free tutorials out there that can be really helpful.
Good luck. It can take awhile to learn how to use a new "fancy" camera. I would also play with your settings to see what gives you good results. Just take pictures of your grass or flowers.
:D Cherie
i shoot on automatic then photoshop for color saturation, linda:)
