I'm On The Mend

I'm happy to report that my back is feeling much better today, and surprisingly so, considering I had to work yesterday, 12+ hours mind you. It's not like me to call in sick. I've worked at my job for almost 7 years and have only called in sick twice. Once last October when Jake had his emergency surgery and then once last year when I got a bad case of the flu.

Unfortunately, others don't share the same work ethic. One of my nurses called in sick yesterday, upset stomach or something. Ya right! It was a Saturday, on a three day weekend no less. That left me not only to be in charge of the unit, but to work the floor all day too which is back breaking work itself.

I only got teary eyed once, then survival mode kicked in.

As I came hobbling in at 4:45am yesterday morning (tell me again why I became a nurse!), a co-worker asked me what was wrong. I said "I'm fine...as long as I'm not walking, sitting, standing, or bending!"

I survived and luckily a good night's rest has helped. I can't do jumping jacks yet but I'm certainly on the mend.

Thank you for your well wishes!

I'm so glad you are feeling better. I get frustrated with people who call in a lot too. I've worked at my place for 19 years and have called in twice; once when my son had a seizure and once when my Mom died.
Hope you are able to relax and enjoy today!

Hi Linda,
That's good news about your back. God bless you for your dedication to your work and your patients. How wonderful it would be if everyone had your work ethic. Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend! Hugs, Loretta

When the old back hurts, everything hurts! I just got over a sore back myself! The weird thing is, I have no idea why my back had me walking like a 90 year old!
Glad you're feeling better and bless you for being a nurse!

Hi Linda,
Soo sorry that your co-workers don't play nice...and that you have to pick up the extra work.
I agree, when your back hurts..everything does hurt. Glad you can stay home and rest.
Take care.Warmly,

I have been out of town since Thurs. I didn't know you hurt your back. And I need to go read you other post on how.... It does stink when ppl think they can do whatever they want & not think how it affects others.
I am so glad your back is feeling better. Take it easy & let howard take care of you!

That's too bad you had to work extra like that. Glad you're recuperating nicely tho'.

Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better, Linda! Ya know, I don't think people really realize what a physically demanding job nursing is. My mom was also a nurse and I remember her coming home from work absolutely exhausted with a sore back, hurting feet, etc.

Hopefully you can get some rest...Happy Labor Day!

I'm glad you're feeling better Linda.

I am rarely sick, but every once in a while get terrible headaches and almost have to go to bed for a day to get rid of it.

You are to be admired for your great work ethic. People like you are certainly few and far between.

Thanks for the sweet comment on my blog.

Hope your back gets better and better.

Love,
Valerie
