Courtney and her roommates decided to go on the Special K diet this week. I had never heard of it so I asked them alot of questions because you know a woman who has put on 10 pounds due to menopause will try just about anything! In other words, I'm desperate! I really did think it was just another weight loss gimmick but now I'm not so sure. I decided to check it out for myself.
The girls told me you eat a serving of Special K cereal for breakfast, another serving for lunch, and then you each a normal meal for dinner. Sounds simple but I thought it was a version of the "all you can eat soup" diet or the "grapefruit" diet. Fad diets and certainly not legitimate. This may also be a fad diet but Kellogg is advertising it all over their cereal box like it's legit and Kellogg wouldn't lie would they!?! The written out instructions on the box are exactly like the girls explained: Special K twice a day and then one normal meal. Kellogg says the benefit of doing this is to drop a jean size in 2 weeks.
Well since we leave for Hawaii in 13 days, PERFECT! I decided to give it a try too. Only one problem, I hate cereal!
I packed up my lunch last night and toted it to work today, milk and all. Today was Day 1 and I could barely get through breakfast. Nothing is more gross to me than soggy cereal and to me, all cereal is soggy! By the time lunch rolled around, I was dreading it. The thought of more soggy cereal was starting to depress me. I decided to eat it plain. Let me just say that eating plain Special K cereal is like eating cardboard...but it's better than soggy cardboard! By the look on my face, a coworker knew I was in trouble and suggested I mix the cereal with some of her yogurt. Not bad I must say! Now I think we're on to something!
Tomorrow is Day 2 and my lunch is packed, this time yogurt and all. By the way, 3 of my coworkers were intrigued by this dieting approach too and decided to join me over the next 2 weeks. I hope Kellogg's promise is for real. I'd love to drop a jean size before Hawaii. Heck, at this point I'd like to drop anything I can!

I was just looking at that in a magazine last night and wondering the same things.
I wouldn't have any problem with the cereal part, and I like cereal in my yogurt too.
I'll check in with you in a week and see how you're doing and maybe try it myself, once we get back home from pet sitting.
I just want to lose about 15 lbs and want to be able to go thru the holidays without gaining, which is usually the case when we break out the apple crumb pie at TG!
Have a wonderful weekend.
There are Special K granola bars and drinks too. The bars are good. Check it out. Let us know how it goes.
Ahhh Hawaii!
I have surrendered. The battle of the bulge is waged no more. It's freeing. But I'm carrying way more than a vanity 10... I think if it was only 10, I'd work to ditch them, too. Good luck!
IF you dont like Special K, I agree with the cardboard thing, just find another cereal. I was thinking about it and if you only eat 1 or so cups of any cereal and then a sensible dinner you are going to lose weight, I dont believe it has to be Special K, but repost and let us know how it is going! I loved HAwaii and cant wait to go back! Which island/islands are you going to? Sue
Good luck I think I'll give it a try!!
I love cereal.
Have you tried the Special K with fruit. I love the one with strawberries. Mixing it with yogurt is a great idea. I may have to try this too. I need a jump start!
it does work, linda:) the diet started really being touted around here about 8 years ago when special k introduced special k red (with strawberries).
just remember your "normal" meal at night is not a big meal at night:P
good luck!!!
much love,

I am not on any sort of diet which is probably why I am struggling to maintain the 30 lbs. I lost last year- but I AM maintaining it. I need to lose more but it's so hard to get motivated. I just try and balance my meals with 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat- works like a charm WHEN I DO IT. Sigh. I need some diet mojo.
I was going to suggest the yogurt and well, your friend beat me to it.
I will gain weight by just saying diet..
Have a good one!
We all await the results. No pressure though. LOL.
Good luck on your diet. I happen to love cold cereal but don't eat it because I can't stop at one bowl! It has to have whole milk though. None of that lowfat or skim milk for me! Hope you are successful! Hugs, Loretta
skip the special K, I want to hear about Hawaii???? where are you going? I "heart" "swoon" every time I hear the word, I love it so much......
