Thrifty Thursday

Thank you Leigh for hosting Thrifty Thursday each week. To join in the fun or to visit other Thrifty Thursday participants, click here.

The Goodwill store near my house increased their prices recently, and not by just a little bit, but drastically. I don't know if it's a California thing or even just a county/city/store increase, but regardless, I've found it's not worth my time or effort to go there anymore. I'm so sad. Here I just start this whole thrift shop/goodwill hobby and they up and do this! Darn it!

A few months back, I did happen to get a really good deal on something though, and I knew from the moment I saw it that it was the real thing.

I've collected Waterford for over 25 years and although I already have this piece, I couldn't pass it up. It is a ring/jewelry holder and retails for around $25.00. I paid $2.00! You can always tell if a piece of crystal is Waterford because the name Waterford will be etched on the bottom of the item.

Here is my $2.00 Waterford find...

So now I'm curious, has the Goodwill in your area raised it's prices too?

Sadly no Goodwill shop here...in fact I have a hard time finding a place to donate items other than clothing.

I have just been disappointed in the Goodwill store here with the items, but the prices I believe have remained the same. It is not close by so I don't go often to check them out.

Don't ever shop there...I have dropped off clothes and the room they accept them in is just awful...I think they have stuff piled up from years back...not very impressive...

What a great deal...If you have Marshall's near you, check to see if they marked the Waterford 2009 Times Square Ball ornament for $6.99...It's in a large, round navy box. I just picked up a few...original price is almost $100.00!

We're depositing stuff at the thrift store right now instead of buying. The Hubs is home for the next few days and we're cleaning out the basement- a chore I'm avoiding right now by blogging! DOH!

What a lovely and useful find! And Waterford no less!

I don't think our Goodwill has raised its prices but I haven't been in for awhile.

Which reminds me...

;o)

Yeah our Goodwill isn't as inexpensive as one would think . . . but I still find some steals there!

I have noticed Goodwill prices go up somewhat. I still find random deals, but some of the prices are CRAZY.

Oh, yes...the prices have been going up here, too...but they are still less than retail! You got a good deal on the ring holder.

I've only just begun to go to the Goodwill in a town near ours, so I don't know about the prices. But... I do know that all the flea markets in our town have raised their prices in the last year. I've been told because so many more people are shopping these stores that they have found they can raise their prices!

Thanks for the kind comment on my blog!

I shop several Goodwills in my area (Georgia)and feel like prices have gone up but still find the deals! Just have to be willing to not buy something overpriced. On Tue is Senior's Day and 25% off! Like the ring holder and that was a good buy!

Hi there, I recently wrote an short article called Saturday Shopping Sagacity, and Goodwill was one of the topics. I have two in my area and it's a new thing for me...so I don't know what the prices are two months ago, but any kind of blouse is 4.99 and any kind of jacket is 9.99, hope that gives you an idea. Glad to know other Goodwill supporters. :-) Amanda

Hi Linda,
Mine has on some items, but on others no. I think it just is a matter of who is pricing that day and if they know their stuff (at my location). What a wonderful treasure you found!
Thank you for linking up to Thrifty Thursday this week, and as always thank you for being a friend in Bloggeritaville.

Don't give up hope - our Goodwill raised their prices but apparently was having problems selling stuff so I noticed last time I went in the prices had went back down.
