Making Up For Lost Time

My husband literally worked his life away during his 20's, 30's, and 40's. He was a business owner and everybody knows that no one works harder than the owner himself...at least that's what my husband always says. So when my husband and his brother decided to close up their business 2 years ago, I had mixed emotions, although I was more happy for him than anything else. I was happy that he finally would have some time for himself.

My husband never had the time to develop friendships of his own. Yes, he had longtime childhood friends but he didn't have the time it took to nurture the relationships to keep them going. He'd come home on Friday night from being out of town and ask what we had planned for the weekend. My friends were his friends. Our kids friends parents were his friends. We were his social network.

Well times have changed and I'm happy to say he certainly is making up for lost time!

I'm now married to a social butterfly!

He went to a fun lobster dinner and get together with friends yesterday...I was at work!

He went walking with his group of walking buddies this morning. Yes, my husband who tells me no every time I ask him to go walking with me, now has his "own" walking buddies. While they walked, I slept in, then cleaned. I needed to straighten things up because after their 1 1/2 hour walk, they come in the house to chat some more and drink ice water!

Tomorrow we were invited to brunch with his walking buddies. He's going and bringing the orange juice and ice. I'll be working!

He has developed such strong relationships with the men in our camping club group that he goes camping with them even if I can't. They are like brothers. These guys call each other, they text each other, they email each other, and most importantly, they're always there for each other!

My how times have changed!

Is It Monday Already!?

Boy did the weekend fly by. It always seems to do that when you're having fun! This past weekend was camping club weekend and we had the best time. We laughed until it hurt and as usual, we ate way to much! I hated to come home but unfortunately work was calling my name today.

I got up early yesterday morning and headed outside to have coffee with the early risers and ended up getting myself in trouble. For some reason during our conversation I mentioned that my husband used to model in his younger days. Oh man did they get a good laugh out of that one, well all except my husband that is! They teased him non-stop and have now nicknamed him Fabio. Nothings sacred around them I tell ya!

I think I need to lay low for awhile, hubby's now giving me the evil eye!

Happy Monday and have a great week!

Hide and Seek

I went to work today after being off for a week so I knew it was going to be tough getting back into the swing of things...and boy it was!

My husband went out of town yesterday so last night I got the laundry room all ready in order to leave Jake in there while I worked today. I put blankets down on the floor, food, water, the whole bit. I also blocked off the door so that he couldn't escape. Although Jake doesn't like his wheels, he's now scooting himself all over...but only when we're not home! I'm telling ya, when you leave the house, you never know where you'll find him when you return.

Today at lunch I rushed home to express Jake's bladder. Many a days I've gone my whole 12-hour shift without taking a bathroom break but there's no way I'm going to have Jake wait that long. I'm sure he doesn't have the sensation of needing to go potty, but now he's prone to UTI's, so we're really good about expressing him regularly.

Anyways, I came in the house and went straight to the laundry room...no Jake! I went from room to room to room, calling for him, couldn't find the rugrat anywhere. He was nowhere to be found! I grabbed the phone, called my husband, telling him "I can't find Jake anywhere. The alarm was on when I got home so I know no one was in the house but Jake is missing!" He says "what do you mean he's missing. It's not like he's gonna get up and walk anywhere!" Duh, I know that, but in the meantime he's missing!

Just as I was going out of Courtney's room (clear across the other side of the house), Jake pops his head out from under her bed!

Here I'm so concerned about Jake and where the little guys disappeared to and hubby's only worried that Jake's gonna leave a trail of poop while he's meandering about the house. Well, truth be told, he's already left a trail of poop while meandering about the house...a few times!

Soooo, long story short, we've now discovered we can't trust a paralyzed dog! Well guess what, Jake's in for a little surprise! We'll soon be bringing out something from his past. Watch out Jake, the trusty old baby gate is coming out of retirement! There's gonna be no more escaping the laundry room now buddy!

If you just weren't so darn cute...

What's The Big Deal About Phones!?!

Verizon LG Voyager Pictures, Images and Photos

I got this phone yesterday and while it appears to do everything except make coffee, it's just a phone. What's the big deal about phones anyway!?!

My husband and daughter are phone freaks. The minute we're allowed an upgrade, they're on it, ready for the next new best phone on the market. I don't get it. To me, a phones a phone. But apparently I'm wrong.

We received a phone call telling us we had an upgrade coming. I didn't tell my husband because I knew he'd be bugging me 24/7 to go down and pick out a new phone. Well I didn't have to tell him because he already knew, probably had been online checking it all out already! So yep, the bugging started and kept up until I went down yesterday and picked out a phone. I saw this phone (which was recommended by my sister), pointed to it, and said "I'll take that one." Didn't know anything about any of the features, didn't care. Just didn't want to spend the day in the Verizon store.

Too late, over 1 hour later I'm still there. My husband's in his element, loving all the phone talk between him and the sales personnel.

Me, I'm just trying to memorize all the information the lady's giving me. All I want is to send and receive phone calls, and maybe a little texting. Plain and simple. I don't need it to make coffee, I'm not a coffee drinker remember!

So, wish me luck with my new phone...if I ever get it back. Hubby's been playing with it since we got home last night!

Lack of Sleep

We've been on the road since Monday and we've already got some serious sleeping issues going on...or should I say "lack of sleep" issues.

My husband snores so loud he could wake up the neighbors, yet Brandon and I are sharing very close quarters with him in hotel rooms while we're on vacation.

Brandon is frustrated, I am frustrated, and we're both TIRED!

It was the middle of the night last night when Brandon loudly shouted "DAD, STOP SNORING!!" Finally, super early this morning Brandon just got up, got dressed, and headed downstairs. He said he had no idea his Dad snored so bad. Believe me, I warned him.

I can already tell this is going to be a lovely trip. I seriously think I should have gotten a prescription for some sleeping pills before we left the house. Brandon bought himself a glass of wine last night. We both need something.

Better yet, maybe Howard should just sleep in the car!

Long, Hot Summer

We got our PG&E (Pacific Gas and Electric) bill last week. Let's just say that the bill is as big as a mortgage.

And I'm mad as a hornet!

All summer long I've been telling my family to conserve energy...turn off the lights, don't run the dishwasher every day, turn up the thermostat. You don't have to keep it at 73 degrees for pete's sake!!

Yep, it's been a long, hot summer having both hubby and little sis home each day...and our PG&E bill proves it!

Other than that, I'm peachy keen!
